birthdays and follow-throughs

my 26th birthday passed recently. i can't believe i've passed the quarter-century mark already. so much in my life has changed, yet i don't feel changed at all; i'm still the same obnoxious bastard i've always been.

one thing i hope to change is to have some new hobbies. a friend i hadn't seen in a long time asked me what i do for fun besides hanging out with the girlfriend or with friends. i couldn't think of anything, and it was kind of embarassing. so, i've decided to take on new hobbies and to try new things!

i'm going to try to start messing with some amateur photography. i got a canon dslr camera recently, and have only used it a handful of times (with my dog usually being the subject). i haven't quite figured out how to take really great pictures, but i hope to learn and really start to enjoy taking really nice photographs.

ALSO, i've decided to try to take up the cello. again. i played for a few yrs bacccckkk in the day, when i was in junior high school. i actually really enjoyed playing the cello, but i had no motivation and did not place it as a high priority in my life. my parents tried to get me to practice but i flat out refused. eventually, my private instructor quit on me (she actually told my parents that she felt bad taking their money). by my first year of high school, i practically forgot how to even read the notes on my sheet music. somehow i ended up in the first orchestra in school, but i actually never played a single note: i just let the bow float over the strings and hoped no one would notice. of course, the teacher noticed and asked me to play in front of the entire class. after being thoroughly humiliated, i went straight to my guidance counselor and dropped orchestra from my schedule. as traumatizing as that was, and as happy as i was to be out of that class, not following through with the cello has been one of my greatest regrets.
i rented a cello from this music center in midtown, and i'm really going to try this time to really really learn how to play again. wish me luck!

new blog

i already have a blog account, but decided to make a new one. the other acct hasn't been touched in over a year. hopefully i stay consistent this time around and manage to update more often.

i guess the point of keeping this blog is to keep myself accountable; a place for my thoughts, ideas, goals, failures, etc... which can only be fully realized/understood when written down. if it's stored in my mind, i'm pretty sure it'll dissipate and i won't remember.
