i hate the holidays.

So much for keeping this blog regularly updated.

The holidays are upon us. Can I tell you, Imaginary Reader, how much I hate the holidays? I hate the superficiality of it all. I hate the music playing in department stores, at the gas station, in my friends' cars. I hate the stress of having to shop for gifts alongside the millions of other people who need to do the same. I just hate hate hate it.
I went to church this past sunday (shocking), and the pastor went on this rant about how it was so important for people to truly commemorate Christmas (i.e. by putting up decorations, buying gifts for the sake of giving, etc.). I know this was not the main point of his sermon (that being we need to remember the reason why we celebrate Christmas), but I could not disagree more. Decorations, secret santa, candy canes, and peppermint mocha lattes all detract from the true meaning of Christmas. Participating in that holiday bullshit fogs your mind even more, so that the real meaning of Christmas becomes hazier, secondary.
I don't know why I'm preaching about the true spirit of Christmas, especially since I rarely go to church or even pray anymore... I guess I feel like Christmas should just be what it's meant to be: to celebrate the birth of Christ. Save the gifts for birthdays.

I don't want to single out Christmas when New Years is just as bad. But I'm tired and have work tomorrow. HOPEFULLY, I'll update again in the very near future.
